PREVIEW: Overit Presents Home Grown Sessions At Caffe Lena

Overit, the Albany-based creative agency, has announced the launch of Overit Home Grown Sessions, a new live music series held at Caffe Lena featuring local music talent. Both up-and-coming artists and established acts across the region will get a chance to perform on the historical Caffe Lena stage, performing original music for a captive audience.

Overit Home Grown Sessions is a collaboration between Overit and Caffe Lena, whose goal is to create a sense of community, creativity and culture, right here in the 518.

“This series is about more than music. It’s about giving local artists a real platform and giving our community a place to gather, discover, and celebrate talent from their own backyard,” said Dan Dinsmore, Founder and CEO of Overit and Overit Studios. “As a drummer and longtime supporter of the local music scene, this project is especially personal to me. Some of the bands we’re bringing to the stage are friends of mine, and many have recorded at Overit Studios. It’s a full-circle moment to help elevate their work and bring it to such a legendary venue.”

Overit Home Grown Sessions began last month with local blues group Mark and Jill kicking things off with an intimate performance at the iconic Caffe Lena. On April 24th, the Saratoga-based band, Honeysuckle, who has received national attention will take the stage for the second show of the series.

“We are honored to be a part of Overit’s Home Grown Sessions,” said Holly McGarry of Honeysuckle. “Caffè Lena is a big part of what brought us to the Capital Region nearly five years ago, and it has become our home away from home. We’re honored every time we get to play in such a historic room and we’re so pleased that, through the Caffè, we’ve met so many other talented writers and players in the area.”

While it hasn’t been formally announced which shows will get the treatment, it is confirmed that some shows will be professionally recorded and released digitally by Overit.

Looking further down the road, Overit Homegrown Sessions has Sawyer Fredericks in May, and Erin Harkes in June. Fredericks is known as the season 8 winner of NBC’s The Voice, and has been a regular staple in the 518 music scene recently, while Harkes has been a prominent figure locally for decades and is also Editor-in Chief of Metroland Now.
