PREVIEW: Grainne Hunt brings Irish Nu-folk to Troy
04/26 @ Mount Ida Preservation Hall, Troy
This Saturday, April 26th the Ireland-based singer songwriter, Grainne Hunt, will be co-headlining with local musician Ryan Leddick at the Mount Idea Preservation Hall in Troy. Hunt will be performing at intimate venues across the Northeast and Midwest, starting off her tour in Upstate New York.
Her soul-stirring lyricism, and soft, soothing voice has enraptured fans young and old, earning her international acclaim. Known as the “Irish Joni”, Hunt’s ability to showcase raw emotion in her writing and delivery has earned her comparisons to fellow folk legends Tracy Chapman, Natalie Merchant, and Delores Keane.
Hunt has toured internationally, appearing at the Folk Alliance International and opening for iconic acts including Gladys Knight, Mary Black, and Eagle-Eye Cherry. These upcoming US shows are part of Hunt’s plan to cultivate a greater presence in the US—where she is sure to strike a chord with fellow folk music lovers in Upstate NY.
Hunt is currently touring with drummer and vocalist Jules Stewart, and has previously collaborated and performed with other Irish folk musicians Brendan Walsh as Grainne and Brendan and Jim Murphy as the folk duo Hibsen. She will also be releasing a new live EP this tour.
After releasing two records full of heartbreak, passion, and raw emotion, with soaring vocals and gentle finger picking, her next project is highly anticipated with audiences across the globe.
