PREVIEW: Big Bad Voodoo Daddy Swings Back Into Troy
03/26 @ Troy Savings Bank Music Hall
The end of March is shaping up to be a rip-roarin’ good time, with The Troy Savings Bank Music Hall welcoming one of the best named bands around – Big Bad Voodoo Daddy – back to the area on Wednesday, March 26th.
Next month marks the 32-year anniversary of the septet, having formed in the early ‘90s in southern California. They’re a touring juggernaut, performing over 150 shows almost every year, reminding audiences along the way that swing music is still cool. Taking inspiration from the creators of this uniquely American art form, the band’s original horn-infused music and legendary high-energy show is both an excellent introduction to the genre for new and younger audiences, as well as a respectful tribute to the music’s rich legacy.
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s all original core line-up includes Scotty Morris (lead vocals and guitar), Kurt Sodergren (drums), Dirk Shumaker (double bass and vocals), Andy Rowley (baritone saxophone and vocals), Glen "The Kid" Marhevka (trumpet), Karl Hunter (saxophones and clarinet) and Joshua Levy (piano and arranger). Their first taste of stardom came after an appearance in the 1996 indie film Swingers, which also launched the careers of Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau.
Since then, the band's music has appeared in countless films and television shows, including Despicable Me, Friends, Third Rock From The Sun and Ally McBeal. They have also appeared live on Dancing With The Stars, Late Night With Conan O’Brien, The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, and the Super Bowl XXXIII Halftime Show. They’ve also performed for three U.S. presidents.
Don’t miss your chance to swing along with this legendary band, as Big Bad Voodoo Daddy comes to Troy to shake the walls of Troy Savings Bank Music Hall!
The show is on Wednesday, March 26th at 7:30 PM. Tickets are on sale now at the venue’s box office, online at TroyMusicHall.org, or via phone at (518) 273-0038. For more information on the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall and upcoming programs, visit the website above.
