NEWS: Slidin’ dirty and Ophelia’s on broadway join forces
“It made sense to work together to provide the best possible venue to grab a bite and catch a show locally.”
Starting tonight, December 19th, Slidin’ Dirty will be doing a permanent kitchen takeover at Ophelia’s on Broadway in Albany. Slidin’ Dirty will be operating the kitchen seven days a week for lunch and dinner, while Ophelia’s will handle bar and wait service.
The space that Tim Taney operated for a decade in Troy as Slidin’ Dirty, was rebranded as Twisted Fiddler last year before his recent decision to not renew the lease. Twisted Fiddler had maintained the same culinary staff as Slidin’ Dirty, but the menu shifted to more traditional pub fare.
Taney has maintained that the menu at Slidin’ Dirty at Ophelia’s will be a return to tradition, featuring classic sliders, as well as a few popular items from the Twisted Fiddler menu.
“Yes, the Avocado Fries will be back,” Taney said, noting one of Slidin' Dirty’s most popular appetizers. “We are bringing back our classic slider menu – our ‘Hall of Fame’ sliders – along with some full-sized sandwiches and pub fare. It’s going to be largely a Slidin’ Dirty menu.”
Right around the time that Taney was making the decision not to renew the lease in Troy, Shane Spillenger was opening Ophelia’s on Broadway. Formerly Parish Public House, Red Square, and Doc McCutcheon’s, the space is known for its large performance room in the back, with its barroom/dining area located in the front. Since opening in October, Ophelia’s has been serving comfort food from lunch into late evening, as well as handcrafted cocktails and an extensive draft list. Ophelia’s has also continued the decades-long tradition of using the space as a live music venue, hosting local, regional and national acts.
Shortly after opening Ophelia’s, Taney reached out to Spillenger about joining forces.
“Tim and I both share a love of live music and good food,” Spillenger said. “It made sense to work together to provide the best possible venue to grab a bite and catch a show locally.”
Going forward, Spillenger will book the music and manage the bar, while Taney will run the kitchen.
Taney has said that the minimum hours that the kitchen will be open is 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week. He expects to continue serving later into the night to meet demand during shows.
Soon, there will be window graphics and additional signage signifying Slidin’ Dirty’s permanent residence at Ophelia’s, but Taney has said that he hasn’t permanently pulled out of Troy and expects to have more announcements in the future.
