If there was ever any doubt about the ability of Proctors or Capital Repertory Theatre (theREP) to put on a show, the annual season announcement bash left no room for question. With dazzling performances, surprise guests, and an electric atmosphere, this reveal set the stage for an unforgettable 2025-2026 season.
Proctors (Schenectady’s “Broadway roadhouse”), and theREP (Albany’s home for new and local works), unveiled a lineup promising laughter, drama, music, and spectacle. And based on the audience's reaction, they nailed it.
Coming to theREP:
In 2025:
Becky Nurse of Salem (Sept 26 - Oct 19): A dark comedy twist on the Salem Witch Trials, and a new perspective on such a dark and infamous piece of history. Fans of The Crucible or The Witch of Salem will love this.
Murder for Two: Holiday Edition (Nov 28 - Dec 28): A classic whodunnit, with a festive spin for the holiday season. Think Clue meets A Christmas Carol.
In 2026:
Archduke (Mar 6 - 29): Some sharp political humor and a bit of history. If Catch-22, Jojo Rabbit, or Life of Brian are your vibe, check this one out!
Dodi & Diana (Apr 24 - May 17): Power, passion, pain, projection, and intrigue, all tied into the infamous story of the people’s princess. Fans of The Crown, Spencer, or The Great Gatsby won’t want to miss this.
Mystic Pizza (July 10 - Aug 9): A feel-good musical that’s equal parts heart and humor. Imagine a slice of pizza with Mamma Mia, Waitress, and Gilmore Girls as your toppings.
Coming to Proctors:
In 2025:
A Beautiful Noise (Sept 23-28): The Neil Diamond musical. If you loved MJ, Jersey Boys, or Beautiful, get ready to sing along.
In 2026:
Spamalot (Jan 6-11): A British comedy that pokes fun at the legend of King Arthur and his knights, based on the classic Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Expect outrageous humor, catchy songs, and a whole lot of absurdity.
The Sound of Music (March 17-22): A timeless classic. Do I need to say more?
Water for Elephants (April 7-12): A spectacle-filled musical full of circus magic and puppetry. If you loved Pippin or The Greatest Showman, you’ll be blown away.
& Juliet (April 28 - May 3): Have you ever asked yourself, “What if Juliet didn’t die?” This jukebox musical with a modern twist tells the story of what could’ve been when it comes to one of the most iconic love stories of all time, Rock of Ages meets Xanadu.
The Outsiders (May 19-24): Heartfelt and haunting. This stage adaptation brings S.E. Hinton's beloved novel to life through song, dance, and top-notch acting. Fans of Once, The Notebook, or Hadestown will fall in love.
Moulin Rouge (June 2-7): The ultimate jukebox musical that blends romance, drama, and a ton of iconic songs. Think Cabaret meets Chicago, but bigger and bolder. (Controversial to say, I know.)
WICKED (Oct 28 - Nov 9): I mean, come on. What can I say about this that hasn’t been said? The blockbuster hit returns for an exclusive extended run, around the same time that Wicked Part 2 hits theaters!
But this wasn’t just an announcement; it was a full-blown celebration. The night kicked off with a high-energy skit and an opening number about why this season is "the one to believe in," setting the tone with music, laughter, and jaw-dropping performances.
Spamalot brought comedy with an over-the-top, hilariously unhinged rendition of “Diva’s Lament,” and The Sound of Music delivered a heartwarming preview as seven local kids took the stage to sing “Do Re Mi” alongside Jill-Christine Wiley, who will star as Maria on tour.
The energy was infectious during the preview for A Beautiful Noise, and the entire audience couldn’t resist joining in for a full-on “Sweet Caroline” sing-along (because, really, how could they?). The Outsiders gave a breathtaking taste of Broadway magic with Brody Grant’s stunning solo of “Great Expectations”.
& Juliet’s insanely talented Khailah Johnson’s phenomenal take on Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone” left the audience stunned, and Mystic Pizza wrapped things up on a high note, as four cast members served up an irresistible version of “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now”.
Big news came out of the bash too: Miriam Weisfeld will step into the role of Producing Artistic Director on September 1, 2025, taking over from Maggie Mancinelli-Cahill, who’s held the position since 1995. We wish them both well in this new chapter.
Subscriptions are open, with REP packages starting at $259 and Proctors packages at $325 before fees. Want the same seat all season? First dibs on tickets? WICKED on your calendar? Now’s the time. One thing’s clear: The 2025-2026 season is gearing up to be spectacular. Get ready, Capital Region: the stage is set, and the curtain is about to rise.
