Schenectady is in for a treat this Friday, April 4th, as the Van Dyck Music Club welcomes celebrated jazz violinist Sara Caswell for the second installment of its ‘An Evening With’ series. Known for her exceptional artistry and technical prowess, Caswell is recognized as one of the leading voices in contemporary jazz violin, making this event a must-see for music enthusiasts in the region.
A Grammy nominee and consistent presence in DownBeats’ critics and readers polls since 2013, Caswell has captivated audiences worldwide with her unique sound. Her talent has even garnered praise from renowned jazz educator David Baker, who lauded her as “one of the very best of the present generation of emerging young jazz stars.”
Caswell’s most recent album, The Way to You (2023, Anzic Records), has further solidified her place in the jazz community. With performances at iconic venues including Carnegie Hall, Birdland, and Jazz at Lincoln Center, she has become a key figure in the genre, participating in prestigious jazz festivals both nationally and internationally, such as the Newport Jazz Festival and the upcoming Saratoga Jazz Festival.
Joining her for this special evening is the Killdeer Trio, a skilled ensemble featuring guitarist Wyatt Ambrose, bassist Even Jagels, and drummer Sebastian Green. Taking their name from a bird often found in Upstate New York, where the trio members were raised, their music reflects the serene yet exploratory spirit of their rural roots. Blending deep grooves with folk-like melodies and elements of free improvisation, Killdeer Trio presents a sound that beautifully navigates the boundaries between modern jazz and popular music.
The concert promises an enticing blend of innovative jazz that appeals to audiences across musical tastes. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the brilliance of Sara Caswell live, along with the enchanting sounds of the Killdeer Trio.
