Preview: Exploring Celtic Influences: A New Performance Series
03/29 @ Irish American Heritage Museum, Albany
The Irish American Heritage Museum (IAHM) is set to celebrate the rich tapestry of Irish cultural contributions to the arts with the launch of its innovative Celtic Influences Performance Series.
Slated to begin on March 29, 2025, this series promises to showcase the profound impact of Irish immigrants on artistic expression across generations. Executive Director Michael C. Clarke emphasized the importance of recognizing this cultural legacy, noting that visitors and members alike have remarked upon the significant influence of Irish immigrants since the 1700s.
“The Irish influence on the arts is far-reaching,” Clarke stated, highlighting how artists continue to "play it forward," honoring their heritage through music and storytelling.
The inaugural concert will feature Grosse Isle, a talented three-piece band from Quebec, renowned for their captivating performances that embody the spirit of Irish music. Described by The Irish Music Magazine as “absolutely magical,” Grosse Isle draws inspiration from the mass arrival of Irish immigrants during the Great Famine, as symbolized by their name, which refers to the site where many sought refuge on Grosse Île in the St. Lawrence River.
Chair of the Board Liam McNabb shared his enthusiasm for the series, remarking on the hard work and dedication of Irish immigrants throughout history, and the lasting imprint they have left on the landscape of America—from infrastructure to the arts.
“The Irish both never forgot and were always proud of their culture and heritage,” he said, making this series a fitting celebration of that legacy.
Set in the intimate Flanagan Theater, which accommodates just 60 guests, attendees can expect an engaging atmosphere where music and storytelling converge. The event begins at 7:00 PM, and tickets are anticipated to sell fast for this unique celebration of Irish heritage.
