“A.I.M by Kyle Abraham, renowned for their captivating performances, consistent boundary-pushing, educational programming, community-based workshops across the globe and its work deeply rooted in Black culture, will bring two performances to Spa Little Theater.”
Many folks know Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) for its seemingly boundless source of entertainment throughout the summer. For over 50 years, it has been a prominent venue in the Capital Region and a significant part of many locals' concert experiences. Sadly, once the temperatures drop, the shows stop, and we all hibernate and wait for the announcement of the following year’s schedule with as much anticipation as we do this first thaw.
Fortunately, the Saratoga Performing Arts Center also features an intimate venue on its grounds known as The Spa Little Theater. This cozy, 550-seat concert space ensures that the entertainment continues, even when we can’t sit on the lawn!
“Our year-round home in Spa Little Theater has truly become a vibrant hub for all genres of music, dance, and theater. In addition to the presentation of – and education in – the arts, we are also proud of our role as a commissioner and incubator of new and exciting works,” says Elizabeth Sobol, President and CEO of Saratoga Performing Arts Center.
Earlier this year, the theater announced its 2024-2025 dance season, which kicks off this weekend! The series begins with A.I.M by Kyle Abraham, featuring two performances that showcase the company’s signature tapestry of Black and Queer stories, woven together with a sensual and provocative vocabulary, alongside a strong emphasis on music, text, video, and visual art. These performances mark the SPAC debut of the company, following the success of Kyle Abraham’s two New York City Ballet works, The Runaway and Love Letter (on shuffle), which made their SPAC debuts in 2019 and 2023, respectively.
The celebrated contemporary dance company, A.I.M by Kyle Abraham, renowned for their captivating performances, consistent boundary-pushing, educational programming, community-based workshops across the globe and its work deeply rooted in Black culture, will bring two performances to Spa Little Theater for its Saratoga Performing Arts Center debut.
Of Artistic Director Kyle Abraham, Rebecca Bengal of Vogue wrote, “What Abraham brings … is an avant-garde aesthetic, an original and politically-minded downtown sensibility that doesn’t distinguish between genres but freely draws on a vocabulary that is as much Merce and Martha as it is Eadweard Muybridge and Michael Jackson.”
There are two performances scheduled for this weekend:
Saturday, Nov 09, 2024, at 7:00 PM
Sunday, Nov 10, 2024, at 2:00 PM
Tickets are available at www.spac.org.
